Rising Stars offers training for 3 different lengths of races, Olympic, Sprint, and Super Sprint. Below are some rough guidelines for what you should be able to do before beginning training. Each bullet point is a separate challenge, don't worry about stringing them together.

The classic challenge (and my favorite event). A 1 mile swim, 25 mile bike, and 6.2 mile run.
You should be able to:
Probably the most popular triathlon distance, the Sprint distance is the first introduction to the sport for many triathletes. A 1/2 mile swim, 12.5 mile bike, and 3.1 mile run.
You should be able to:
Fun, Flashy, Fast. The super sprint is the shortest of the triathlon events and the core of the super-exciting Mixed Team Relay! A 300 yard swim, 6.2 mile bike, and a 1 mile run.
